Wayne Young is a fine art and landscape photographer living in Phoenix, Arizona and working with both digital and film media. You can...

From an early age, I usually had a camera with me and I was encouraged to take pictures by my parents and family. However, in high school, other artistic pursuits took precedence and I missed out on doing the photographic activities. My school limited you to either visual or musical arts. While I wish I could have done both, I really enjoyed my musical pursuits as eventual first cello in the orchestra and singing bass in the chorus. It wasn’t until later in life, that photography and I came back together.

After my rediscovery of photography, I followed the path of photography as a hobby turning into a profession. After several people asked me to photograph weddings and special events, I realized that I might really have something to offer. My journalistic style of photography eventually led to working with the Whiz Magazine while I was living in New Orleans.

While pursuing my photographic work, I have found a compliment in doing promotional materials. This has included all the steps from initial concept, to directing and shooting the models, to editing and production of the actual posters, flyers, tickets, et cetera. While not my main focus, I still do occasional portraiture, both studio and lifestyle sessions. I also donate my time and skills to several local fundraising groups. Currently, I have been working with the organizations Phoenix Pagan Pride Day and E.P.I.C.’s All Hallows Masquerade Ball by shooting publicity images, designing their posters and event tickets.

Since losing my apartment to hurricane Katrina and returning to Phoenix in 2005, I have been concentrating on my fine art images. I really enjoy capturing the interplay between color, texture and shape. I have tried not to concentrate on any one “style” of photography and let what catches my eye dictate the starting point of my images. Following this approach, I find my work has become stronger and more clearly displays my vision of the world. Currently, I am continuing my photographic and artistic endeavors by pursing a degree in Fine Art Photography.
