RED RATTLER

The night rushes by as the train rattles on
Lights appear as lanterns in the dark,
The clickety clack of the wheels
Is the louder of two sounds
The patter on the carriage roof the other
That can be heard on this rainy night

As we come to the station
Everything becomes clear
People on the platform, pull their coats tighter
Some use scarfs or hats to warm their ears
To keep out the cold and driving rain

The train comes to a halt and the
Chatter and call of the people can be heard
Rushing to the refreshment bar
Lightening purses and wallets

Then were off again into the night
People contented and tired
Put their heads to the cushions
And drift off to sleep,
Only to be awakened by the jolt of the train
As it reaches the next station.
