Pinocchio

You, wonderful boy, with open eyes and shy smile, feel the tickling of your spine
and prepare.

Burst forth, great wings, listen not to his screams
but push out with splintered bone and feather.
Reform him.
Stitch him with wire and twine, you that
split him apart.

And then, and then, with running sores
and wet cheeks he stands.
He stands at the edge of all
and thrills!

Coltish man,
with long fingers and warrior eyes,
leap from this place.
Soar up and higher!
Squinting, how I wish I knew you.
