Artist's Description

Sea Fury

The last of the wartime style fighters from the Hawker stable the Fury was inspired by a captured Fw190. First flying in 1944 and entering service in 1945 the Fury and the Sea Fury variant saw service with naval air arms of the UK, Australia and Canada in Korea – making several Mig 15 ‘kills’ in that conflict. The ultimate in piston engine fighter design the Fury holds the piston engine world speed record – although this is challenged by Bearcat.

The image shows an Australian Sea Fury FB10 variant – originally supplied to Iraq in 1948
