‘Squadron Inbound’

As the RAF recovered from the rigours and losses of 1940 and ’41 the fighter arm became more confident in their ability to take the battle to the Luftwaffe. No.92 Sqdn, based at Biggin Hill, was tasked with making sure that the German units in the Abbeville area were well aware of their presence. Sections of the Squadron Spitfires were briefed to carry out regular offensive operations over occupied France and harry any Luftwaffe units that they came across. This tactic tended to draw Luftwaffe fighter cover away from any daylight bombing missions and ensured that the German High Command did not send all their top units to the dreaded East Front.
