Artist's Description

This incredibly beautiful flower is in fact a weed spreading through the Blue Mountains bushland like wildfire. These plants and flowers are absolutely everywhere, right through the Blue Mountains. Everyone who has ever been to the Blue Mountains will recognise these flowers.

Coreopsis spreads by means of wind and water, the movement of contaminated soil, and garden waste dumping. It is also widely believed that some persons have deliberately collected and scattered the seed.

Prefers open areas and full sun, and was initially confined to roadsides, railway embankments, disturbed areas, and bushland edges. However Coreopsis is now moving down stormwater drains and watercourses into bushland, following the siltation left by urban runoff. Its dense clumping habit and rapid spread can crowd out native plants and seriously reduce the germination of native seed.

Info on these weeds and how to control them can be found here
