Artist's Description

This row of rural mailboxes are sagging – as though tired. Maybe they are tired of waiting for the postal worker, or the recipients to come pick up their mail.

Others besides myself have commented that they like the image of rural mailboxes clustered together. I wondered why. Maybe the reason people like rural mailbox groupings is that mailboxes are all alike in purpose and generally in form, yet all different and clustered together they seem like a group of friends – sort of giving them a human nature. They also bring people together – neighbors coming to pick up their mail. Maybe that? Might make a nice study or calendar . . .
