Artist's Description

Another one from my series of Royal Mail wallboxes from the reigns of different monarchs.
This one I found at the Townend part of the village of Finsthwaite in the English Lake District. It’s amazing what you see when you start looking.
I began with a Queen Victoria wallbox in the vilage of Colthouse 9 miles from my home, then a George V box in Near Sawrey, a couple of miles closer. This was only 3 miles from home and then I discovered that my local postbox in the village was a George VI , something I’d not noticed before.
Edward VII reigned from 1901 to 1910.The postboxes were originally modified VR designs but from 1905 the crown was changed from the Imperial State Crown of Victoria to the Tudor crown of Edward VII. Later, they were modified again to show a scroll cipher for the initials. The box in this image is one from the 1905 design and we can place it between 1905 and 1910
