Artist's Description

Driving along the Solway coast in Cumbria,NW England I passed this farm, which I had seen many times before but not paid a lot of attention to. I noticed it was called Drumburgh Castle so looked it up on the internet..this is what I found.
Drumburgh Castle, a sixteenth century pele house built by Thomas Lord Dacre, replacing an early fortified tower. Lord Dacre used stone from Hadrian’s Wall to build his new house, so for those walking the wall from west to east this is the first sign of Roman stone._(Source knowledge.me.ukcastle.html )
It is grade 1 listed but isn’t open to the public.
Obviously the farms here had to be fortified to keep out marauding Scots
Sony Alpha 350 DSLR 18-70 lens, single RAW tonemapped in Photomatix Pro4 (painterly)
