Artist's Description

…in the heart of the English Lake District fells,in the National Park. They always say don’t go out unless you are prepared for all sorts of weather in one day.Taken on 12th Feb 2011 on our walk up Fleetwith Pike.We had intended to go to Haystacks , a small fell above Buttermere, but the weather in that direction looked threatening. The cloud was going up and down like a yo-yo and Fleetwith Pike looked a better proposition.
It helps to know your fells (mountains) as if the fog comes down, you could easily descend to the wrong valley.
Taken from the side of a slightly brighter Fleetwith Pike, this is a view across the rough ground with Haystacks just out of view to the right along the intervening ridge.
The great fun is trying to identify the fells above hidden in cloud and as usual it took a long time before the cloud lifted enough so that we could identify the looming mass as Kirk Fell, which is at the head of the Ennerdale Valley between Great Gable and Pillar.
It was sunny when we started!
