Asparagus setaceus

It’s an innocent picture.
A photo of a magnificent vine. I was buying a baby. I wanted record of what it would look like grown up.
At the last moment you asked, “Do you want to be in it too?”, and I felt funny, odd and strangely shocked because that would not be something you’d think or ask, I thought.
So half reluctantly, I took one step in thinking you’d get my extended arm in the frame – and not much more. My hand would show scale.
Instead, you got all of me.
My face is tipped low-ish.
I can’t describe the look on my face. I wince because I know I was wincing within – and too warm – uncomfortable.
I have a sort of smile – not too much – that would be “showy” and Us Lund Girls are Not Showy.
It’s kind of sad. I’m wearing gray. That was planned.
Along with a nondescript other color. Also planned.
And working shoes. Yes, planned too – couldn’t risk for my shiny dark red toenails to be seen.
My purse is brought against my body – as some cover.
It’s just you.
It’s just a photo of a plant.
What a strange little moment.
What a strange past.
What a strange person
I am, and maybe
you too.
