White Sheets

She heard the ute coming up the drive the red dust flowing in the wind, running to the mirror to check her hair and her lipstickHe had been gone for two weeks and one day now she knew today was the day he would come home she had been ready waiting to run down the brick path and jump into his armsShe was wearing her white pearl button shirt her favorite brown boots and her short denim skirt, Red lipstick to leave her mark and a vanilla scent filled the houseA truckies wife she had become but to this day she didnt care what they all said, a life without a husband they ranted and raved on, She didnt care as long as they had eachother thats all they needed in lifeShe heard the breakes slam on and the door open and shut without even looking up she ran out the door down the two wooden steps she would never forgetDown the path she saw the shadow as there eyes meet she slowd down her life just went into fast forward. She just moved in slow motion forward as she started falling she grabbed onto his shirt and he went down with her, she wanted to run she wanted to scream but nothing was coming, on the stones on her knees the red dust swirling she just stares at him, he’s shakeing his head but once again nothingTwo weeks and one day was all it took for her life to be shattered she starts to punch she starts to scream where is he where is he, She looks up to him into his eyes his best man who stood beside him at their weddingHe was pulling up he had a full load on he had to lock the breakes up he didnt see the car infront. It had stoped on the highway it was to late, he swirved to the side the tree went throught the front window. I pulled him out and held him in my arms he said a few words before he passed on" Tell her that I love her more she will laugh at that tell her I will be watching every single day and let her know theres a storm coming and she needs to bring the white sheets in " They both look over to the white sheets blowing among the red dust and the wind blowing them around how did he know that I only just hung them out.He also said to take the test and go and see your doctor and in eight months and one day you will hold your baby daughter, she will be fine and let her know I would have made a great fatherWe sat there for hours in eachothers arms how do I say goodbye how do I say goodbye, there was life in those eyes, the white sheets keept blowing in the storm all throught the night.
