Vampire

My lips were bleeding.
Not much.
Just a little bit.
He had bit me.
Pierced my flesh with his teeth.
As he groaned against my mouth.

The rusty taste
Rolled over my tongue.
Slid down my throat.
Into my stomach
Mixed itself with the alcohol
He had shouted.
Made me sick
As I fumbled with his pants.

He didn’t seem to notice.
Burried those teeth in my neck.
And busied himself,
In some strange,
Vampire ritual.
Without realising,
My blood,
Had already passed his lips.

Artist's Description

This poem is a metaphor
for giving yourself to people
without thinking about it,
and then feeling guilty
or regretting it
because in the end, all
they did was hurt you.
