The Summer That Changed Our Lives (Novel Idea)

I hadn’t planned it.
I had no idea he would tap at my window at midnight.
I didn’t know I would force open the rusty window and whisper for him to come inside.
I didn’t know I’d spend that night in his arms.
We didnt know I’d bleed.
Nor did we know we’d fall in love that night, in a way that was beyond the other love we had felt in the past. We were just two kids. Two teenagers, with scars still on our knees from our playful childhood games. But somehow, that night changed us. We were no longer young and mindless; we were old and mindless. And we longed for more than the empty streets of our small town. We left for the city that Summer.

I still remember Dads face as I told him I was leaving, and hauled my single suitcase out to the boot of James’ car. He almost cried. But my dad never cries. He’s a man. A proper man. My dad would have made a great soldier.
Mum didn’t speak; she cried. I kissed her wet cheek and waved at them as we drove away. I don’t think they’ll miss me much really.
