Artist's Description

The Young Marble Giants were a band from Cardiff, Wales, who were always very fondly remembered in the alternative scene. Their one and only album, ‘Colossal Youth’ could be called ‘enduring’ I think, more than anything else.
Recently, I’ve been listening to other material the band done since YMG; this is really the same artists as YMG really, under different names. ‘The Gist’ was the first project embarked on, and I highly recommend ‘Embrace the Herd’, as well as ‘La Variete’, by their later project ‘Weekend’ – seriously worth hearing. There have been various other projects by the foundation of Young Marble Giants, that are all very much worth being heard – Alison Statton must surely have one of the most instantly appealing voices, with always challenging lyrics to go, yet she is largely unknown. Always nice to be able to make a recommendation.
As far as I know, Young Marble Giants are still occasionally performing under the same name again; they did a recording for BBC Wales in 2003 that can be heard on Youtube – ‘Allright’! Excellent stuff!! I’d also recommend ‘Problem Attics’ by The Gist’, and ‘Red Planes’ by Weekend!
(hope I got that all out ok – the noise here is terrible – hammers and drills as ever)
