i stopped drinking about a year ago , i was only going out once a week , sociably but responsibilities made me decide to stop altogether . it was around this time
that i heard the song ‘bacchus on the wagon’ from the
‘paradised razed’ l.p. – 1996 , blyth power .
blyth power was begun by josef porter , who had previously played drums in zounds , the mob , faction and null + void . zounds + the mob both only ever released one album apeice , but both of these were held to be classics in the punk rock world . faction and null + void were smaller concerns .
blyth powers’ first record was ‘chevy chase’ in 1985 , they were totally unique then (and still are) in that josef , a keen trainspotter has always used historical themes for his songs – he demonstrated a
very wide range of historical knowledge from the begining as well as a solid grasp of it ; this in turn inspired me to take more interest in history .
they’ve released at least 10 albums now , the last one i got from snail-mail in 2006 – ‘fall of iron’ – always worth a listen if only to hear the stories .
the same year ‘paradise razed’ was released , i saw ‘zounds’ in the nottingham lamplighters – sincerely they were brilliant ; i was so pleased to have made it to this gig , i usually miss the ones i want to see the most – they had reformed after more than 20 yrs – released online single 2010 .
any of ‘blyth power’ releases worth hearing – many i’ve not heard myself yet .
p.s. forgot to say , josef porter plays drums + is also
lead singer .
