TOPIC - ROMAN POLANSKI

I have been intrigued by not only the events (clearly a fascinating occurrence) but also the views of people and how it has divided people. Personally I am amazed that people are amazed at his arrest, considering Roman Polanski himself has been deliberately avoiding arrest and plotting his movements to escape extradition. If anything the anger towards authorities should be that of satisfaction that they are capable and competent at their job.

I do however also acknowledge that if the victim herself, from reports is happily married and has presumably gotten over the event/crime that occurred so long ago that making the conviction stick I’m guessing would be tough. Considering she doesn’t want Polanski to be convicted. And there is the question whether it is of much relief to anyone to go down that path.

I saw an interesting comment on a local news site which read something along the lines of If John Ferguson had made The Pianist would he have escaped prosecution? John Ferguson for those who don’t know being a local paedophile who has been in the news recently as residents he was relocated next to protest.

This may be an exaggeration but I can see the point he is making.

I am keen to hear both sides of the argument. Anyone?
