Acrylic, blueberry juice, beetroot juice and ink on Arches water colour paper.
This is a Chimeran piece and with it comes an interesting story.
I am Chimeran. That is I am made up of more than one entity. (A traditional Chimeran is a mythical creature, part lion, part goat, part serpent) I am an internally conjoined twin, my twin is attached to my ovary never having fully grown, developed or separated. My twin is still a living entity, a mass of tissue with hair and teeth (she has about 6 which show up on X-ray’s). “She” secretes hormones and feeds off my blood supply. Sometimes I cry for the twin I have never met but carry with me daily. On this particular day I was making blue berry muffins and as the tears dropped I had the idea of expressing my feelings in this painting using the juice from the berry’s. I also used beetroot juice on the background to signify the blood that we both share, our bond. The beetroot juice imparts a beautiful glow to the painting I would not have achieved with traditional paints. The sushiko like patterning on the surface represents the cellular barrier that prevents our meeting. Perhaps the many divisions that never took place. There is over 13,000 such markings on the original painting, each hand rendered with yellow ink and a bamboo skewer.
