as is
This is dedicated to nature’s small miracles that can leave us as adults astounded.

This has also been called Crucibulum vulgare or birds nest fungus.
Scientifally, the eggs are called peridioles and each contains a mass of spores. The egg dispersal mechanics of the bird’s nest fungus are as amazing as its appearance. The nest, called a peridium and less technically, a ‘splash cup" is ideally contoured for efficient egg dispersal by raindrops. Each drop of rain can throw the eggs up to several feet away. Each egg has a sticky thread that attaches it to something. Under good conditions, the sportes germinate as the egg case decomposes. Its nutrients are available, new colonies of bird’s nests develop.
Inedible.
