What Is The Hope You Have?

What Is The Hope You Have?

This year is going to be an interesting one. I’m referring to the elections. We read and we watch the media and from them we gather information about the candidates who are running. Can we believe and trust everything we hear or see? The media is used to sway people’s opinions one way or the other. Then, I see how this results in confusion. Pretty soon, we don’t know who to believe anymore. This is a scheme which has been master minded by the father of lies since the very beginning of creation. Satan instituted every lie, every form of doubt, every bit of confusion that ever was or will ever be, until Christ returns to crush his head. Satan’s agenda is to steal our hope.

One main way that we are put into a state of confusion is through the media. It’s the reports we hear, it’s the visuals we see and it becomes the mainframe for our beliefs unless we know the source of all Truth, God’s Word. But, are we bothering to check it out in full? By who’s word of authority are we taking in this information? It’s the buzz, all the white noise that creates an atmosphere that stirs us up. We tend to be persuaded by what we see or hear and then we make decisions based on our opinions. Can we trust our own opinions? What if we only knew half of the story? What if we heard only half of the truth? I can only conclude then that if we heard half of the story, there must be another half that contradicts the first half. If we only hear half truths or half lies, doesn’t it make sense to deduce that it’s not all it appears to be? If any part is false, then it’s all false. Same as if something were partly true, it’s not the whole truth. Are we willing to settle for half truths when it comes to our very lives? So, let me ask you, what is the hope you have for this life… and the next?

The one thing that really saddens me is that many people are living their lives as if this is all there is. They don’t have a hope because they can’t see God’s truth, they don’t believe He has a plan for them. They can’t fathom the idea of the reality of their spiritual separation from God. For a person who is dead in his sin, all this seems nonsense. These same people will settle for part of what they have determined as the whole truth. For them, their minds are made up, they have all the answers and won’t dare to explore any other possibility. For example, I know a person who is intelligent in social affairs, she has a masters in the arts and teaches in high school. She claims to be an agnostic, one that does not believe in a higher power and refuses to admit that perhaps there’s more to life than just existing day to day. What I find rather astounding is that an educated person with head knowledge would proclaim to be agnostic in the first place. The root word means to be ignorant. For someone who clings to their ability to learn and be learned, they are claiming to admit that this subject is not knowledgable, therefore remaining ignorant to the true facts. Is it truly possible to be intelligent and refuse to search out the truth? Is it safe to assume that a person with this narrow minded view isn’t all that intelligent? I’ll be the first to admit, there are a lot of things I don’t know or ever will know. But I believe if I opened my mind up I would learn a lot more. Knowledge enlightens, it brings with it understanding. Things that once made no sense now make a whole lot of sense. Even I know this. Is it smart to believe that you can’t learn any more? Even more so, refusing to hear it? We all have a free will to decide, but shouldn’t we at least be aware of all the information before we make the choice, right or wrong? God knows there are people like this and He tells us the outcome of their folly.

“Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. For it is written, ‘He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness’ and again, ‘The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.” 1 Corinthians 3:18-20

God already knows that all the so called wisdom of a man is mere foolishness. The reasoning behind a person who considers themself to be wise, is actually useless. Useless in that they will never know Christ and just why they need Him. Without Christ, it’s impossible to have hope in this life or the next. He also already understands why so called wise people consider the things of God foolish.

“But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.” 1 Corinthians 2:14

A “natural” man is actually a person who lacks supernatural life and wisdom. When a person has been converted to God’s Truth, he is a born again person, made alive by the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit which illuminates God’s Truth in order that we can now understand the hope we have. Without this supernatural transformation, the natural man is spiritually dead and can not understand God’s ultimate plan. As a result, this person has no hope for an eternal life. It’s all foolishness to them. But what is really foolish is that this so-called wise person will never know a life of everlasting peace, joy, love, contentment, patience, or long suffering in this world or the next!

Our ultimate purpose as a human being is to fellowship with our Creator, God. The only way to do that is to accept His Son Christ. This acceptance then saves us and gives us an inheritance with Him in heaven. Other than this, no one, no matter how wise they think they are, can ever hope to save themselves. And God has given an open invitation to “whosoever” will turn from their sins and confess them and believe that Christ is their Lord and Savior will be saved. This goes for every atheist, every agnostic, every person of every race, religion, color, location and sex. No one will He turn down, even if you have turned Him down. God is patient, loving, merciful and gracious unto us. He desires that we will all one day know the hope we have in this life and the next.

Do you know what your ultimate hope is today? God doesn’t expect you to be perfect. Don’t wait to clean up your act first because it’s impossible anyway. If you are truly sorry for rebelling against a holy God and know you need His forgiveness then don’t wait another second. Tell God the Father in your own words 1. You are a sinner and need His forgiveness for those sins. Tell Him how truly sorry you are. 2. Tell Him you believe that He sent His Son Christ to die in your place and also that He raised Him from death. 3. Now thank God for giving you a place in heaven with Him. If this was sincere and heartfelt, you can be assured that your name has just been add to the Lamb’s Book of Life! Welcome home!!! Tell a Christian and learn how to keep growing. Increase in godly wisdom.
