Vico Cortes alias Ludovico Cortese was born in December 1960 in Napoli, Italy. He lives and works as iconographer in the district of Rome.

He begins his artistic life as writer and soon after as photographer in Berlin, Germany, where he resides for few years. He travels a lot, searching for an inspiration revealing the deeper meaning of his own life. This search takes him to many different countries: India, Nepal, Thailand, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, Georgia, Egypt, Europe, USA.

In 1991 Vico Cortez is the founder member of a not for profit educational association in Rome that promotes the art (Art for Aids International). Few years later he withdraws to the country in the roman landscape and lives in a hermitic style of life. During this period he learns the art of iconography according to the ancient technique of the egg tempera and begins to work as professional iconographer with main customer a monastery in the area.

He continually strives to deepen his knowledge and experience of life and painting so that he widens steadily his painting techniques until he reaches a neo-figurative style, enriched by the experiences and skills acquired during his spiritual quest and as photographer.
From the last exhibition writes of him Fabrizia Ranelletti:” The artistic reflection is based on a human being figure that takes form on dreamlike backgrounds. The intentness, on which the artist impels the human being is the implemented canon for expression: one form of life, repeated with the same norms and bounded to the inner soliloquy, searching for an objective reality.”
