Artist's Description

about micro-biological poison

Bt-Toxin designates a toxic substance (Toxin), which can be produced by the type of bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis. Many Bacillus thuringiensis trunks (Bt) produce crystalline inclusions during the Sporulation. These proteins contain partially effective insecticides Toxine, which are added either to the group crystal toxins (Cry) or cytolytic toxins (Cyt). The effectiveness and specificity of the Bt-Cry-Toxins let become it a means in the agriculture, used far. It is apart from its antagonists (e.g. the for other organisms as humans absolutely innocuous and is therefore e.g. also in the ecological agriculture a certified means.

Cry Toxine consist of three domains. A domain consists majority of alpha Helices, the other two of beta folding sheet structures. Homologien between the individual Cry Toxinen are only within five structure-receiving ranges inside the protein, while all different are differently cut to the specific landlord conditions.

The alpha Helices domain (I) consists of seven Helices, which are responsible for the emergence of the diaphragm pores. While the central Helix is water-rejecting hydrophob, thus, all different behave amphipatisch: The outside ranges are hydrophilic and the inside hydrophob. Five the external Helices are long enough around 30 "‰ a diaphragm to by breakdowns. It comes to an inversion hydrophob/hydrophilic ranges, so that the Lipide of the diaphragm border on the hydrophoben ranges of the Helices.

The second domain is responsible for the connection at the cell receptor. It consists of three antiparallel beta surfaces, which form a so-called beta prism structure. The third domain consists of two into one another devoured beta folding sheet structures, which form a so-called Jelly roll surface. Their function is not yet completely investigated, safe is however that it has on the one hand a stabilizing effect on the protein. The domain closes a hole between the other two domains and protects the Toxin in such a way against Proteasen. On the other hand this domain contains at least two connection places, which – one accepts in such a way – not only like Lektin specific hydrocarbons but also Peptide to bind to be able.
