Artist's Description

The Sacred Fig (Ficus religiosa) – the Pipal Tree in India – This plant is considered sacred by the followers of Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism, and hence the name ‘Sacred Fig’ was given to it.

Siddhartha Gautama is referred to have been sitting underneath a Bo-Tree when he was enlightened (Bodhi), or “awakened” (Buddha). Thus, the Bo-Tree is well-known symbol for happiness, prosperity, longevity and good luck.

I just love the shape of the leaf – a subject for a number of my pics. This one is a second shot at this composition – added another light to the mix to provide some backlight to the leaf and light the background.

F is for Fig Leaf (Ficus religiosa)
