This 360° stereographic panorama was shot in the center of the inner chamber of Dun Aengus stone fort on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. Dun Aengus literally means: “Angus′s Fort”.

The fort consists of concentric semi-circular stone walls to the front with a 100m cliff drop to the sea at the rear making up the straight edge of the semi-circle. In this representation, if the green disc was a clock face, the cliffs would lie in the section between 1:00 o’clock and 4:00 o’clock. AT about 11 o’clock you can see the doorway out into the outer chamber. The tourists are enjoying the sunshine on the cliff edge.

Dun Aengus is an Irish National Monument in the care of the Bord of Works.

Archeological excavation in the 1990s suggested that the site was first occupied about 4,000 years ago.

Method
The 27 source images were shot on a Canon EOS 5d with a 16 mm fisheye lens and stitched as bracketed exposures shot at 60° intervals. They were blended together as a HDR panorama using Hugin (a free open source program).
