Time to stop and get my breath back

After a period of non-stop work and activity which included getting my teenage daughter back to art school after a year at home during which she had done a distance learning photography course, on Sunday I found the time to pick up my own camera again for the first time in absolutely weeks.

We had been invited along to the inauguration of some sports’ facilities on an island near our home, and had some friends and relatives taking part in the boat races which were part of the event so naturally wanted to be there to shout our encouragement. You have to know that we actually move around town usually on a small motor boat, and Sunday was no exception. The cold wind had not been taken into consideration but being on the water gave us a pretty good vantage point during the races which were won by a team which included a relative – and were lost dramatically by the team of all our friends!!!

But the great bbq put on by the local Scouts was compensation enough, and the chance to visit the wonderful island of San Servolo, once a psychiatric asylum, was an added bonus. Now a wonderful haven in the middle of the Venetian lagoon with beautifully tended gardens and exhibition areas, it hosts numerous cultural and educational events, offering advanced technological research instruments to monitor the problems which are inherent in the lagoon, and most recently, a number of spaces and facilities for the local population.

Our outing was complete with the appearance of a well known home-grown “rock” band which played outdoors to a small, intimate audience in the shade of the beautiful magnolia trees only a stone’s throw from the lapping lagoon.

Great day – if a little chilly!
