(Painting till I make it, then painting in a bigger studio.)

Hello, I’m Brooke Wandall, an abstract painter doing my own thing and not following the crowd since 2007.

I live in the country and always will. My artwork reflects the moods of the seasons that surround me in this beautiful area.

I am working on a few different experiences- abstract landscapes that take you far away and also close to your heart, to my original terrariums that are flattened out and simplified shapes of wild flowers (like writing a poem in a book: words evoke emotion whereas the art evokes feeling) and to abstract nudes that are a compilation of a body, distorted and shortened and exaggerated. Like my favorite artist Vincent Van Gogh said, ‘Exaggerate the essentials and leave the obvious vague’, I intend to do that leaving enough to transport your visual senses to a nostalgic place.

When I work, I become a completely different person. Maybe I have multiple personalities but when painting, all the chaos in life fades.. I can focus when otherwise focusing is a chore. I haven’t gotten to where I want to be with my work but I’m starting to develop a consistent way of creating marks and colors and compositions that increasingly make more sense to me.

I love creating these abstracts. Every painting is its’ own experience. I’ve been finding such unique ways to call a painting my own: scraping, digging, pushing, letting the paint drip and experimenting with different mediums (some that dry fast and some slower). Really every painting is its’ own experience held together as a series by similar paint marks and colors.

I’m really in love with the process. I love moving the medium around especially housepaint. It covers quickly and moves with ease. Oils are great for surprising patches of color. Reworking and making a a painting come together is a joy. I don’t have a plan in mind when I am painting. They usually find me as long as I am open to that.

I began painting in high school. I attended Marywood Univeristy and graduated in 2007 with a BFA in painting and the Saint Luke medal for excellence in art.
My artwork has been noticed by Kelly McGehee, production designer for films, featured on the cover of a CD, in a French online magazine called Volup2, had my first solo show in my hometown at 31, and am currently working on a terrarium show in NJ. My work can be seen all around the world thanks to this wonderful place called Etsy. Thank you for the opportunity to share my work and thank you to all my devoted customers.

I live outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania with my two beautiful children and my wonderful husband who builds me frames.
