My foot

Ok currently im lying in bed, listening to music, and tapping away on my laptop and its 1.24pm… Thinking what the hell am i doing in bed at this time in the afternoon!

3 Weeks ago my friend named Chris had a themed party for his 24th, And everyone was dressing up, the theme was Rockstar, and 9/10 of the fellas went dresses as Kiss! Now i was running late recharging batteries for my topmount flash, i finally showed up and everyone was lined up and down the stairs getting photos, thinking to myself ‘This would be such a good photo! Everyone else using crappy point’n’shoot cameras, my photos would stand out big time!’ So i pass my camera down the stairs cause i had no way of myself getting down through, i did the smart thing of jumping over the balcony fence and then dropping atleast 2m and then rolling, easy done, fast and efficient. Just in time before everyone moved i snapped them all.

Now we head off after predrinks to the staff bar, we all turn up stunning the bars usual residents, no time for chitchat everyone heads inside for drinks. As for myself (ive put drinking aside for awhile, no real reason just a choice i made.) i follow the crowd inside, but ive accidentally miss-stepped and rolled on my left foot and there the pain kicked in, my god!
I pack up early and stumble home in pain, Bandage ice and elevation was the best path. 7am I wake up still in pain, ive called up my boss and explained that i was in serious pain and working today wouldnt be so good, i get the reply of “Were you at the bar?” “Yes.. BUT i dont drink!” i said, and all she could do was laugh >_>. Majority of the day i was in bed wrapped/elevated/iced trying my best to look after myself, yet by the end of the day i was still in pain. Woke up next morning and still the foot was hurting, so off i went limping to work… for 2 weeks.

I finally thought this isnt right im going to the doctors to get this sorted out, jumped on the transfer boat over to shute harbour, bus into airlie beach and 45 mins in que for a silly bruised ankle, but i was wrong, “No no this is worse.” said the doctor, he calls up the xray join and gets me booked in. Hour later we get the results after getting my foot scanned, and nothing showed up… “I think you need a 2nd opinion Scott” Thomas my doctor mentions, he again picks up the phone and calls the hospital and books me in for a CTscan! Lucky i was able to score a lift cause the location was a fair bus trip away.

I bust in through the hospital door, and i find my way to the Radiology section, i get put straight through due to my booking, and im told to lay down on this motorized bed which slowly slides me through the CTscan machine. Only 10 mins of waiting outside and my doctors comes out and explains that i have 2 fractures in my 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones in my foot >_> So much for a bruised ankle…

Anyways the doctor explains i will need a cast, not a small foot cast, a fuck off all-the-way-to-my-knee cast, im feeling absolutely destroyed inside because of my working position “Deckhand” How the hell am i going to run around the boat throwing lines and serving Champagne with this fuck off cast!? My job is in jeopardy.

I actually chose not to get the cast being such a work enthusiast, and the chances of getting fired and sent back home to sydney were a likely.. But for another week working on this fractured foot i get another phone call from my doctor in airlie for another appointment.

I turn up and here is Thomas my doctor with a very confused face, he questions why im so silly not to get a cast, “Dont you realise that if you continue on working how you are, chances of arthiritus are high” And my jaw drops, thinking wait, “Do i really want a stuffed foot for the rest of my life, or get a cast for a month and halfa, get fired, go home and see my ever so missed family..”

Now here i lay upset, pretty depressed, on the wait for my boss’s confirming phone call, tapping away on my laptop…

My path to taking photography professionally and to the next level has been put on hold for abit.

Ill Update this when i get a call.
Scott Mitchell
