MAMMATUS CLOUDS

Striking mammatus clouds moved into my area on Good Friday before Easter in April, 2006. The Storms Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma had put our area under our second ‘TORNADO WATCH’ of the year.
We were expecting extreme weather with severe storms that very day.

Little did I realize I was standing under the anvil of a severe thunderhead while shooting these incredible clouds! I took around 100 pictures as they changed from one brilliant color to another in front of the setting sun.

The event lasted about 45 minutes, and I will never forget how truly beautiful the sky was when the mammatus clouds came in my area here in Ashland, Kentucky that Friday!
