Mom

I have never felt so quizzically distant
I want her to be smiling like the day

She took that picture I begged for
In my yellow dress with the white ruffles

Proud like when I got to sing with my class
and hold up the gingerbread man

Intrigued like when I learned to blow bubbles
And tie my shoes

I want the world to bath her in the warmth
of the memories she has given me

I don’t want her to forget me

Nor the world
To forget how beautiful
Her wonderment as she went to college which inspired me

Her support when she felt like crumbling

Her tears when she defends the weak
