While living in Illela, Niger, I became very close with a Tuareg family living in a wadi, or dry river bed, nearby. This small tribe consisted of about eight families and their livestock, goats and camels. Zaina was the wife of a respected storyteller. A caring wife and mother, and a good friend, she was always happy.
