We expect a well bred dog always to live up to the best character of his breed. It is only after long experiance that we learn to concede to him a right to indulge himself in a meaningless dog-whim occasionally. T az, my Pit bull,was out with me for a drive the other day ,when we saw a rat on a rubbish-heap near the Fransiscan.I pulled up, and Taz jumped out and darted towards him. The rat,however, showed no fear but stayed where he was,and I expected to see the usual light which Taz never refuses. When Taz saw that the rat offered neither to fight nor to run, he stopped in evident surprise; they looked at each other a moment in a not unfriendly way ,as it seemed to me, and then Taz came back to the vehicle, not acting ashamed in the least, but wagging his tail as if to say," He’s all right he is koo!. Let’s be going.’’
I am quite sure that the rat was not sick or disabled, for just as we were driving off, I……………………………….
