Artist's Description

This photograph is taken in the South Indian village festival called “Amman Kulz Thiruvizha”. This festival is celebrated in the TamilNadu state only. It is celebrated during the tamil month “Aadi” which is the hottest month in Tamil Nadu. During this festivals the people decorate their houses with Neem plant leaves. Cook a special food (semi fluid) called Kulz which is made Ragi and Rice. During this festival they will provide this food to all their Neighbours and friends. This festival has some old reasons. Since this month is the hottest month, in olden days, most of the diseases spread during these days. So people decorated their houses with neem plants leaves which has some medical properties which is prevent the disease from spreading. Also “Kulz” is an excellent body coolent food. It will make the people immune to the diseases due to the warm climate. Also the ancient people believe that they celebrate this festival to Goddess Amman thanking her for saving them from theses diseases.

Yesterday this festival was celebrated in my house. So I got a chance to have a few clicks of this festival.
