Artist's Description

The rider in the green dress has found a tiny river of water in the desert canyon and then stopping to let her horse have a drink. There is a brightly colored Desert flower in front of them that symbolizes beauty and harmony.

This was a VisionQuest type of piece before I left New York to come to New Mexico. I prayed and fasted and did a lot of meditation in order to shift my awareness to where I could receive a message and visual form about what I should take with me on my journey where I was going and why I was going there. These are fairly common techniques and shamanic practice and in native American training of people to get in touch with their spiritual aspect and higher consciousness.

On her back are three feathers and also a gourd held in a turtle shell. This would have been fairly common in the old days because the cord to carry water the turtle shell would hold it in place and it could be strapped to the back like a backpack.

This painting is brightly colored like the new Mexican landscape it is painted on silk with metallic resin to light it up.
