sun and a way of life

the frogspawn went, and it took
days for me to notice.
i had once been so keen
to see,
the fresh evolving.

i placed my hand down
where your feet hand been
and traced the shape of them
with my eyes closed.

i knew you had been here.
but briefly i could not remember your face.

long hot evenings spent watering the beans
propping up the dead ones.

i still imagine you calling to me
but with your head turned,
so i do not see.

and the rapture fades,
warmth settles in,
blanketing the organs,
comforting me.

summer grows hot now
my clothes stick.
i gently put away the phtograph
sing-song to myself, and
consider the sun,
and a way of life.

sun and a way of life

Artist's Description

i often find myself thinking of my old elderly neightbour who died a few years back. he used to sneak up on me when i was out weeding, and took great plesure in making me jump. i used to get really cross ‘millie, dont keep doing that’. but each time i survey the empty space, i see him. and miss him.
