december dark II

the town lights cling like limpets in my view,
a mat of whites, yellows, blues,
all spread out, blurred by my wet eyes,
by the soft warm, too warm, december night.

dog is at my side, we are both more than alive,
skirting this way and that, as the damp earth gives way
we slide,
no one out here hears me laugh, or sees me smile,
or ruptures that perfect peace inside.

if i survey this scene for a while,
things change, things unfurl, like butterflies or moths,
we’re cut form the same cloth,
and we’re breathing the same air,

all similarities end there,
for good silence is what i have gained,
by being alone, content as the stars,
out here in the rain.
