fossil memory

i dreamt of someone i once loved,
and who in dark patches i love still,
like the wind blowing over my skin,
cooling, easing and unseen.

march into april and all blossom
freshens the day like clean linen,
so even the rains that bring it down,
feel clean, ridding me.

in the mornings,flocks of finches
rise and fall, rise and fall,
touchdown just for a moment
and then are gone; the mosses still grow.

two hawks dropped out of the tree,
arced directly in front of me,
i breathed away all hunger and fear,
deeply, longingly, silently,

and brushed away the dirt
from fossil memory,
the skeleton of the things i chose no
longer to be,
but that which still lie buried
and so remain a part of me.

i dreamt of someone i loved once,
and who with long sentence i love still,
like the salt evaporating from the sea,
rising, resting, effortlessly.

fossil memory
