St. Leon Wind Farm is located approximately 150 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg near the town of St. Leon Manitoba. It was the first of its kind in the Province of Manitoba and one of the largest wind energy developments in Canada.
A single wind turbine-generator can generate up to 1.65 MW of power, with maximum capacity produced when wind speeds reach ten metres per second. The turbines start generating at a minimum wind speed of three metres per second, always turning at 14.4 rpm.
A 99 MW wind farm is capable of powering approximately 41,000 homes.
