Artist's Description

I’ve been always fascinated by clowns since I was very young.
Clowns seem to be joyful all the time, wearing heavy make-ups, and colorful costumes. However, I’ve always wondered what is hidden behind their smiling faces, and have thought it would be a perfect way to hide one’s true emotion, feeling, and identity.
Sometimes, I feel like I’m only showing good things of me to other people when I’m not truly the person that I represent. In this painting, the clown is myself, and I’m holding a black/white mask which is not as colorful as the clown’s mask, but is closer to my real character.

Pastel painting.
