The Doggy Tales of Harry’s Pets

Harry has two dogs. One dog is called ‘Henry Hound’ and the other dog is just called ‘Little Dog’. Harry’s dogs liked to find new places to go and Harry and his mother liked to take them walking. Harry’s dogs had been taken for walks in the woods many times by Harry and his mother. It was their favourite place. One day Henry Hound and Little Dog escaped out of their garden and wandered into the woods near to where they lived. They ran in and out of the trees. They sniffed at the grass and the flowers.
There were lots of flowers in the wood. There were bluebells that looked like a blue carpet.
Splish, splash, Henry Hound and Little Dog had found a puddle.
Henry Hound and Little dog then spotted a squirrel which had just jumped down from a tree. Both dogs chased after the squirrel. The squirrel climbed back into the trees and looked down at Henry Hound and Little Dog.
Harry’s dogs got tired of trying to catch the squirrel so they turned their attention to a rabbit which was about to run out of the woods. The two dogs chased the rabbit but it ran to the safety of its burrow.
A hedgehog lying asleep in the sun did not want to play and curled itself up when Henry Hound sniffed at it.
Henry Hound and Little Dog were not having much luck. None of the animals they had found in the woods wanted to play with them.
Henry Hound sniffed at the grass. He was not watching Little Dog. Little Dog wandered off.
Henry Hound tried to find Little Dog. He called out to him ‘Woof, woof, where are you Little Dog?’ his barks seemed to say.
Little Dog had got lost. He did not know how to find Henry Hound. He did not know how to get home.
Henry Hound could not find Little Dog. Henry Hound returned home.
“Where is Little Dog?” asked Harry. Harry was very worried. He loved his dogs very much and had been calling to them as he thought they were at the bottom of his garden. Harry’s garden was very large and Harry did not realise that they had escaped.
Henry Hound barked. He kept running towards the door. Harry realised there was something wrong. Henry Hound was trying to tell him something. There was no sign of Little Dog. Harry ran to tell his mother. He was very worried that his dogs had got lost.
“We had better go and look for Little Dog”, said Harry’s mother. “He might be lost”. She found a hole in the fence where Henry Hound and Little Dog had probably got out.
Mother took Harry and Henry Hound into the woods to look for Little Dog. “Woof, woof, barked Henry Hound.
Little Dog heard Henry Hound barking “Woof, woof”, barked Little Dog. Harry and his mother had found Little Dog.
Henry Hound was very pleased to see Little Dog again. The two dogs wagged their tales all the way home. Harry was very pleased to have his dogs back home again. “Henry Hound and Little Dog, you must not run off ever again,” said Harry. “I don’t know what I would do if I were to lose you”.
“We will have to make sure that Henry Hound and Little Dog cannot escape from the garden ever again”, said Harry’s mother. “They were very lucky this time but they could have been injured or lost for ever”. Harry gave his dogs extra biscuits and a big hug he was so very pleased they were safe.
