Inside Out

She longs to be somewhere,
Outside this little town,
Outside this space and time.

She needs to feel something,
Inside to recognise,
Inside to know she’s real.

She’s waiting like a patient,
Patience her only friend,
Her soul is a soldier,
In this war that will never end.

She wants to know that somewhere,
Outside her house of thoughts,
Outside there is a light that waits for her.

She’s craving some other time,
Inside she feels like dying,
Inside is so much safer.

She’s waiting on expectations,
That demand her attention,
She no longer recognises,
Who it is she’s fighting.

Inside out and upside down,
Turning in and turning out,
Bring it up and push it down,
It’s all just round and round.
