Useless, Used Up

Pale faced and sweating,
Memory clings to your skin like polyester,
You’re all flaccid and nostalgic,
It’s a sickness this obsession
With what’s past before –
Static and monochromatic,
Useless used up wasted life force,
Maze well fall from the roof
Of the glass house you built –
Don’t recommend you keep throwing stones.
We all love a victim,
But these days you gotta be pretty,
And you don’t make the cut,
Just our wrists,
But you can’t achieve the end in mind
Because you’re just applying theory –
Practice, practice, practice,
You’ll make it in the end,
To the hell you talk about so often.
Damned dark damsel,
Frail, and oh so mysterious,
People don’t like to read books anymore anyway,
Maze well burn the pages you’re writing
Your tragic history on.
Why not step into the light,
Make a conscious choice to leave it all behind,
You know it’s just a game
And in games you take turns –
It will all come back around again –
And maybe by then you would have left your corner,
And made it to the centre
Of the useless used up life you lead.
