Artist's Description

Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican celebration honoring those who have died by preparing special foods, dressing as skeletons, decorating altars, holding feasts in cemeteries. The skeleton and skull (calaveras) theme dominates, but, believing that for 24 hours, the spirits of the dead can return to the living, the mood is joyous.

Dia de Los Muertos celebrations are common in New Mexico and, in Albuquerque’s South Valley, are capped by a parade.
