Artist's Description

In the arid southwest United States, even the tiniest trickles of water are precious. I was delighted by this small waterfall in the Jemez mountains of New Mexico ~~ a wispy, whispering rush of silvered water over the cliffs. The waterfall creates a wonderful interplay of light and color: the ancient shale cliff darkened by water spray on one side, light grey under the harsh sun on the dry side, moss and scrub brush tenaciously clinging to the cliff’s surface.

New Mexico’s Jemez Mountains are the remains of a once towering volcano – pieces of rock from ancient eruptions have been found as far away as Kansas.
