DADDY

I know you suffered and no longer felt you could live
Knowing you it was because you felt you could no longer give
All that you had done for years before
And felt it was time to enter the Lord’s door
As I looked down into the coffin I said
DADDY dearest you are dead
I remember back to all the hours
You taught me about the flowers
How you held my hand and explained
About flashing thunderstorms and the rain
You told me stories about the Italian Navy
And how when you were young your hair was wavy
You loved my independence and you would say
My baby girl, always stay this way
You trusted me more than anyone
And danced with me..you were always fun
Took me out in the car
And took me on trips very far
Your eyes spoke so many words
No one else but me ever heard
Sorrow overtook both of us when mom died
We sat down for many hours and just cried
Now here I sit once again
This time I lost my best friend
The little girl you once had is now grown
Unfortunately, without you, all alone

Artist's Description

When the holidays come around, even though my parents are gone for many years,
I always think about their kindness and today thought about my father’s death..and
funeral….
