The Lampost

Under the Lampost waiting and dreaming
And inside his heart screaming
Waiting for a time when she would arrive
He no longer felt he was alive
The Lampost shone down a very bright light
On this ebony-filled night
He was looking up at the stars
Dreaming his love would come from afar
But he waited so long and she never arrived
And he longed for her and thought he would die
He paced under the Lampost where they were to meet
Hoping that the time would come when he would greet
This woman that had grabbed onto his heart strings
And love would be what she would bring
But the hours passed and she never came
He finally left and it started to rain
As he was walking he heard a voice
Come back to my darling, am I still your choice
He turned around and she ran in his arms
Filled with her love and gracious charms
Under the Lampost they shared their first kiss
And he realized how much he had missed
