The Little Angel

She was just a little baby
And when I put her to bed
There was a Little Angel
Sleeping at her head

She was so adorable
I wanted to touch her wing
But just as I reached for it
She began to sing

It was a Hymn
I had heard before
When she stopped singing
I wanted to hear more

She looked up at me
And with a smile
She blew me a kiss
And slept for a long while

The next morning I looked for her
She was no longer there
She left a little present
A ribbon for my baby’s hair

I wondered why she visited my baby that night
She was so little and seemed in need of rest
Perhaps she had wanted a playmate
And decided to be my baby’s guest

I never saw her again
But whenever I hear a bell ring
The hymn comes into my head
And I begin to sing

The Little Angel
