Big Old Oak

You are such a mystery
Filled with so much history
Each branch reaching out like arms
Keeping their trunk from harm
If you could speak what would you say
Tell us of the many yesterdays
That you have stood in this very place
While time just continued to race
Did birds nest between your leaves
As they criss-cross and weave
Hiding the little bird’s treasure
Did lovers come and sit and profess
Their love for each other and confess
To a passion with no end
And become lovers and friends
All the words that I have spoke
Are dedicated to the Big Old Oak
