The Traveler

He slowly walked down the road
Suitcase in hand
Carrying a heavy load
Not any plan
A life of dismay
He tried to ponder
How he ended up this way
Why did he still wander
Was it the drink
Or was it the drugs
How did he sink
Lower than bugs
He took a flask
Out of his pocket
It was a task
Out dropped a locket
He remembered her voice
Sweet lilting tones
She told him it’s your choice
When they talked on the phone
He never listened never did care
She died soon after
He said a short prayer
There’ll be no more laughter
In my life
I’ve killed my mother
Destroyed my wife
They both deserved more
Than I ever gave
I was always sore
Became a slave
To booze and drugs
No more excuses
I’ll never get hugs
I’ll stop all my uses
A block away he stopped again
Took out his flask
Said you’re my only friend
No need to ask
He continued to use
Anyone he met
He did abuse
He didn’t know how to give
No family no friends
He travels on..no where to live
All alone in the end
He didn’t know how to give
