A Man With No Regrets

He was A Man With No Regrets
Holding close his cigarettes
He made a promise..he swore
That he would smoke no more
The addiction to his smoking
Had him coughing and choking
I warned him that the cancer would return
But unfortunately my Dad never learned
He smoked Pall Mall and Marlboro too
One day he thought it was the flu
I took him to the doctor only to be told
The cancer returned and your Dad is now old
So he lasted awhile in very grave pain
The toll on his body was a terrible strain
I held him close in the hospital not wanting to leave
When they called to tell me he was died I didn’t believe
That this strong silent man with so much to give
Gave up his all chance he had to go on and live
His addiction to cigarettes was what caused the harm
To the Dad that I loved who was so filled with charm
But here I am the daughter with regrets
So sorry my Dad couldn’t give up cigarettes
