Foolish Marietta

Slowly she turned and he was there
Brushing her long golden hair
Stroking her neck and her face
She had a rush and her heart raced
As had happened so many years before
Then one day he walked out the door
It was a figment of her imagination
A desire she had..her own creation
Foolish Marietta
She felt a chill up and down her spine
Thinking he said he would always be mine
Remembering his soft smiling eyes
Speaking with one voice but telling lies
Shameless thoughts filled her head
Thinking of their times lying bed
When he would touch her and the blaze would ignite
And their lovemaking would last all night
Foolish Marietta
Now she slept in a bed filled with tears
Thinking of how she wasted so many years
How could it be he never returned
She thought one day he would have learned
That no one could ever love him more
Why did he have to walk out the door
The years that followed are not very clear
But she waited for him year after year
Foolish Marietta
Now she was too old to have all she sought
Her life was spent…her life was bought
Her eyes were sullen..her face was drawn
She cursed the day she was born
She gave up her youth…her time on earth
She had nothing…not any worth
She closed her eyes and went to sleep
Knowing that he had not been hers to keep
Foolish Marietta
